Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 31 near Valley Falls

A 17-year old Redmond-area driver died Saturday morning in a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 31 about two miles north of Valley Falls in Lake County.
On April 18, 2010 at approximately 8:39 a.m. a 1982 Ford pickup driven by NICHOLAS PICKERING JR., age 17, from Redmond, was traveling on Highway 31 near milepost 119 with his father and two younger brothers.  The driver lost control causing the pickup to roll.  The crash scene and emergency response blocked the highway for about one hour.
NICHOLAS PICKERING JR. died in the crash.
His father, NICHOLAS PICKERING SR., ae not available, received non-life threatening injuries.  Two younger brothers, ages 13 and 11, were not injured.
All occupants were using safety restraints.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Lakeview office are continuing the investigation.  Driver fatigue is a possible contributing factor.
