Information Related to Wednesday's Brief Phone Outage Affecting Firearms Instant Check Unit Service
04/18/2012
On April 18, 2012 at approximately 12:25 p.m. the phone system into the Oregon State Police Firearms Unit began experiencing technical problems. We immediately contacted our service provider who worked quickly to restore services. At approximately 1:45 p.m. we began receiving calls into the Firearms Unit 800 phone line.

The Firearms Instant Check System (FICS) online option did not appear to be affected. Staff where handling those requests as they were received.

While awaiting for confirmation that the issue was resolved, FICS customers were asked to contact our Identification Services Section main telephone number. FICS Instant Check phone call requests into the section's main telephone number were transferred to a FICS call taker to initiate the background check transaction as soon as possible.

During the service interruption all available staff helped to conduct background check request phone calls as they came in during the 80 minute interruption.

We apologize for this inconvenience and are continuing to investigate what caused the interruption to services. When confirmed we will that the appropriate actions to try and prevent future occurrences.

Thank you for your patience during this time.
