An Idaho man died Monday morning after losing control of his pickup in icy, foggy conditions on Interstate 84 about one mile east of North Powder.
On April 21, 2008 at approximately 6:00 a.m. a 1981 Toyota pickup driven by JAMES HARDIN SLAWSON, age 38, from Kuna, Idaho, was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 287. After passing another vehicle at speeds estimated at 50 - 55 mph, the pickup lost control and spun around before rolling several times in the center median where it came to rest on its top.
SLAWSON was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints. Ada County Sheriff's Office notified next of kin.
Oregon State Police troopers from the Baker City work site are completing the investigation.
ODOT and North Powder Quick Response assisted at the scene.
