A Seattle, Washington man is in custody Monday after he allegedly assaulted a Wilsonville woman and stole her sport utility vehicle after he forcibly got into her vehicle near Wilsonville. The suspect attempted to elude Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers and Keizer police officers before crashing the vehicle and trying to elude on foot.
According to OSP Sergeant Mike Stupfel, on April 21, 2008 at approximately 1:40 p.m. Oregon State Police Northern Command Center dispatch received a report from DESA HARAWAY, age 51, from Wilsonville, reporting her vehicle had been stolen by a male suspect near the southbound Interstate 5 Donald exit at milepost 278. The victim reported she was earlier flagged down by the suspect near the Interstate 5 Stafford Road interchange, and as she rolled her window down he forcibly got into the vehicle and told her he needed a ride. At the Donald exit the victim said she was assaulted by the suspect who overpowered her, took her vehicle and fled leaving her at the scene.
An OSP detective spotted the victim's vehicle westbound on Brook Lake Road near Brooks between Highway 9E and Interstate 5. The detective followed the victim's vehicle as it entered Interstate 5 southbound from the Brooks interchange.
OSP troopers took over surveillance of the vehicle, it began to drive recklessly southbound and attempted to elude. Exiting at the Keizer off ramp near milepost 260, Keizer police officers monitoring the incident successfully deployed spike strips at the top of the exit ramp. The vehicle collided with two other vehicles as it turned westbound on Chemawa Road from the off ramp. The suspect's attempt to elude ended when he failed to negotiate a turn in the Keizer Station Complex, striking a curb and causing damage to the curb and disabling the vehicle.
The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was captured by OSP troopers and Keizer police officers.
The suspect is identified as DON W. MARLOW, age 31, from Seattle, Washington. He was arrested by OSP on the following charges and is being lodged in Marion County Jail:
  • Robbery in the Third Degree
  • Assault in the Fourth Degree
  • Theft in the First Degree
  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
  • Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
  • Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude on Foot
  • Reckless Driving
  • Failing to Perform the Duties of a Driver in a Crash
  • Criminal Mischief in the First Degree
The victim did not require hospital treatment but did receive minor injuries.
Additional charges by Keizer Police Department are pending related to their crash investigation. Questions regarding the traffic crash can be directed to Sergeant David DeLay at (503) 390-3712.
