A man wanted since an April 15th kidnapping of a Grants Pass-area woman followed by another alleged kidnapping Tuesday of the same woman was arrested about 4:30 p.m. in a wooded area off Pinnon Road west of Grants Pass near where the stolen 2001 Ford Ranger Edge pickup was located unoccupied.  Oregon State Police troopers, Josephine County deputies and Grants Pass police officers were in the area when the suspect and victim came out near where they left the pickup.  The victim has been located safe.
ROBERT ALAN BUFANDA, age 49, from Grants Pass, had been sought by State, county and local police agencies since April 15th after he kidnapped and threatened a Grants Pass woman.  The victim was able to escape the first kidnap attempt.  On April 22, 2008 at approximately 2:30 p.m. BUFANDA, who was considered armed and dangerous, allegedly kidnapped her a second time and was last seen driving a stolen black 2001 Ford Ranger Edge pickup.
State, county and local police agencies were searching the Grants Pass area when the stolen pickup was found.  Shortly afterwards, officers spotted BUFANDA and victim walking out of a heavily wooded area and took him into custody.
BUFANDA was lodged in Josephine County Jail on the following charges:
  • Kidnap in the First Degree
  • Robbery in the Second Degree
  • Burglary in the First Degree
  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
