Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Saturday evening single vehicle fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a 50-year old Reedsport area man along Highway 361 (Culver Highway) just south of Metolius.
On April 25, 2009, at about 6:35 p.m. a 1992 Dodge Dakota pickup driven by JACKIE L. MATHER Jr., age 50, from Reedsport, was northbound on Highway 361 near milepost 6 attempting to pass a vehicle when it lost control. The pickup drove off the east side of the highway, over-corrected and overturned coming to rest on the west side of the highway.
MATHER was not using safety restraints and was ejected from the pickup.
MATHER was transported by ambulance to Mountain View Hospital in Madras where he later died as a result of his injuries.
Traffic on the highway was reduced to one lane by ODOT for approximately 3 hours.
OSP troopers from the Madras worksite are continuing with the investigation. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Madras Police Department, Jefferson County Fire Department and ODOT assisted at the scene.
