Trooper Arrests Fugitive Following Attempt to Elude south of Roseburg

An Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper arrested a California fugitive Friday morning after the wanted fugitive ran on foot, swam in the South Umpqua River, and was eventually found hiding in blackberry bushes.
On April 29, 2011 the OSP trooper was attempting to locate a wanted subject in the Dillard area south of Roseburg. When the trooper stopped near the wanted person's residence, another vehicle also stopped.  The trooper attempted to speak to the male driver of that stopped vehicle but he immediately fled on foot.
Believing this was the original wanted subject sought, the trooper pursued the man as he fled the area and swam down the South Umpqua River before climbing out.  The man tried to hide in blackberry bushes but was found by the trooper.
The man was identified as CHARLES ANDY BURNS, age 27, from DillardBURNS was determined to be wanted on a felony Absconding Parole warrant from CaliforniaBURNS was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on a no bail warrant and is awaiting transport back to California.
