Driver Sentenced to 95 Months Related to March 4th Fatal Crash Near Eugene

The driver of a vehicle that caused the death of a Eugene man on March, 4, 2008, was sentenced in Lane County Circuit Court on Tuesday.
On April 29, 2008, EDUARDO GUTIERREZ, age 41, of Eugene, was sentenced to 95 months in prison after being convicted of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, DUII, and Reckless Driving related to a fatal traffic crash on Highway 99 north of Eugene. The crash occurred when GUTIERREZ failed to negotiate a right hand corner, causing his 1988 Dodge Pick-up to enter the southbound lane where it struck a 1988 Honda two-door head-on. The Honda's driver, JUSTIN DANIEL DOUGHERTY, age 23, from Eugene, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene where he was ponounced deceased.
The conviction and sentencing in this case is a result of the Oregon State Police investigation done in partnership with the Lane County District Attorney's Office.
