Oregon State Police troopers from The Dalles are asking for the public's help related to an investigation into the theft of an expensive piece of heavy equipment taken from a highway construction zone east of The Dalles.

On May 2, 2011 at approximately 1:00 a.m., personnel from K & E Excavating reported that a "skid steer" was taken from the jobsite along Interstate 84 about one mile east of The Dalles.  The equipment is Caterpillar's version of a vehicle commonly referred to as a "Bobcat" type tractor and is valued at approximately $50,000.

According to Trooper Mark Jubitz, it appears that the equipment was loaded onto a trailer and taken from the area. The stolen vehicle has tracks instead of tires and looks similar to the attached photograph.

Anyone with information regarding this theft investigation is asked to contact the OSP Northern Command Center at (800) 452-7888.
