Oregon State Police (OSP) arrested a driver who fled the scene after hitting and injuring a bicyclist as he talked on a cellphone on SE 82nd Drive near Highway 224 in the Clackamas area. Witness information, including vehicle license plate and description, helped OSP troopers find the driver and vehicle at a Clackamas residence where he was arrested.
According to OSP Senior Trooper Jeremy Richardson, on May 3, 2010 at approximately 1:50 p.m., BONNIE INGERSOLL, age 20, from Oregon City, was riding a bicycle on SE 82nd Drive about 200 feet north of Highway 224 when she was struck by a white GMC Suburban that was pulling out from a gas station into traffic. The driver of the Suburban reportedly was talking on a cellphone when he struck the bicyclist and drove away without stopping.
INGERSOLL received minor injuries and was treated and released for cuts, scrapes and bruises at the scene by Clackamas County Fire District 1 personnel.
Using witness information, Richardson found the vehicle at the registered owner's Clackamas-area address in the 9700 block of SE Talbert Street. Investigation identified the driver as BLAKE SHARKEY STEVE, age 20. He was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail for:
