Unattended In-Custody Death Investigation - Cottage Grove Municipal Jail

Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigation Division detectives, with the assistance of the Lane County Medical Examiner, are continuing the investigation into the death of a 24-year old man found deceased early Saturday morning in a cell of the Cottage Grove Municipal Jail. OSP is investigating the death at the request of Cottage Grove Police Department and there are no signs of foul play or injury.
 
According to Sergeant Andy Kenyon, on May 5, 2012 at approximately 5:00 a.m. Cottage Grove police reported an unattended death after a 24-year old man in custody on drug-related charges was found deceased in a cell. OSP detectives and the Lane County medical examiner responded to the scene. There were no signs of physical injury or foul play. An autopsy is anticipated for Monday.
 
The man's name and other related information is withheld pending completion of next of kin notification and the pending autopsy.
