Oregon State Police (OSP) is investigating a reported sexual assault early Tuesday morning, May 4, at an on-campus residence hall at Oregon State University.
OSP investigators say that at approximately 4:00 a.m., an unknown male allegedly entered a 20-year old female student's room and assaulted her. The victim did not have a roommate. The suspect was described as a white male, 6'3" with a heavy build and short spiky hair, wearing blue jeans and a dark colored t-shirt.
OSU and law enforcement are asking for information pertinent to the ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information can contact OSP Lieutenant Jeff Lanz of the Oregon State University Area Command office at 541-737-3010.
OSU officials encourage all individuals to take appropriate precautions to stay safe on campus, and offer the following tips as good safety practices:
  • Keep room doors locked at all times.
  • Do not prop outside doors open. Do not let strangers into residence halls.
  • If you see something suspicious, call police.
  • Avoid the use of headphones when walking on campus.
  • Be aware of what is going on around you.
  • Whenever possible, carry a cellular phone when walking in remote areas.
  • At night, walk in well-lit corridors of campus.
  • Take precautions at day and night. Do not walk or jog alone.
  • "Blue Light Phones," which provide a direct connection to OSU Public Safety and 911, can be found at many locations across campus.
