An Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper was injured Thursday while attempting to overtake a man fleeing on foot in The Dalles.
On May 5, 2011 at 5:45 p.m. OSP Trooper Jason Calloway observed a motorcycle being operated at high speeds on Interstate 84 eastbound near Rowena. The trooper paced the motorcycle at speeds in excess of 120 mph driving recklessly by passing on the shoulder and between other vehicles.
Trooper Calloway discontinued his attempt to stop the motorcycle after it exited the freeway and entered the city of The Dalles. A Wasco County deputy found the suspect after leaving the motorcycle near 4th Street and Laughlin Street. The male suspect scaled one fence and was about to scale another fence when a deputy grabbed him and took him into custody.
The suspect was identified as COLIN MITCHELL MCCURDY, age 26, from Portland. He was lodged in the Northern Oregon Correctional Facility (NORCOR) in The Dalles on the following charges:
  • Felony Attempt to Elude on a Vehicle
  • Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude on Foot
  • Reckless Driving
  • Escape in the Third Degree
  • Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree
Trooper Calloway was injured during the foot pursuit. He was transported for treatment by ambulance to the Mid Columbia Medical Center where he was later treated and released.
Wasco County Sheriff's Office deputies and The Dalles Police Department officers assisted troopers during the incident.
