Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 42S west of Coquille

A 67-year old Bandon-area woman died Thursday night in a single vehicle crash on Highway 42S west of Coquille. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
According to OSP Senior Trooper Fred Dunlap, on May 6, 2010 at approximately 7:50 p.m. a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by DARLENE VICTORY WEATHERS age 67, from Bandon, was traveling eastbound on Highway 42S near milepost 15 when WEATHERS failed to negotiate a left-hand curve for an unknown reason and crashed into the westbound guardrail.

WEATHERS was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was wearing her safety belt and her car's airbag deployed. The highway was closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Coquille Police Department, Coquille Fire Department, Bandon Police Department, Coos County Medical Examiner, and ODOT.
