Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 213 south of Molalla

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Saturday night two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Highway 213 about six miles south of Molalla.
According to Trooper Alex Monarch, on May 7, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m. a 1988 Chevrolet Sprint operated by JACKIE LEE CARTER, age 55, from Salem, was southbound on Highway 213 when it crossed into the oncoming lane while negotiating a curve. CARTER'S vehicle was struck by a northbound 2002 Buick Century operated by RICHARD DEAN TOWNSEND, age 66, from Mulino.
CARTER was pronounced deceased at the scene.
TOWNSEND and his wife, JUDITH, were both injured and subsequently transported to Oregon Health & Sciences University.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by the Monitor Fire Department, Molalla Police Department, and ODOT.
