Fatal Commercial Vehicle / Pedestrian Crash - Interstate 5 south of Salem

Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation into the death of a Salem man after he ran in front of a commercial truck and was struck on Interstate 5 northbound south of Salem.
On May 11, 2009 at approximately 10:45 a.m. a 1997 Volvo truck pulling a semi-trailer loaded with furniture was operated by DAVID LIZER, age 45, from La Mesa, California northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 247. As the truck was in the right northbound lane a man standing on the shoulder reportedly ran into the path of the commercial truck and was struck.
The man, identified as ANGEL TAPIA-ORDONEZ, age 44, from Salem, came to rest in the ditch alongside the freeway and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
LIZER was using safety restraints and was not injured.
No lanes were blocked during the investigation.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
ODOT, ODOT Motor Carrier Inspectors, Marion County District Attorneys' Office, and Marion County Medical Examiner assisted at the scene. No enforcement action pending.
