STATE OF OREGON
PROCLAMATION
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
WHEREAS: Oregon has no greater responsibility than ensuring its citizens are safe and secure in their homes, neighborhoods and communities; and
WHEREAS: Law enforcement officers are vital components of the state’s criminal justice and public safety system and routinely place themselves in harm’s way to protect Oregonians, safeguard our communities and uphold the freedoms we hold dear; and
WHEREAS: It is important that we express our gratitude for the dedicated service of law enforcement officers and for the contributions they have made to the security and well-being of our citizens; and
WHEREAS: We honor those peace officers who, through their courageous deeds, have lost their lives in service to the community or have become disabled in the performance of their duty; and
WHEREAS: The State of Oregon is proud to join with the rest of the nation in honoring the commitment and professionalism of the men and women who serve as law enforcement officers.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Theodore R. Kulongoski, Governor of the State of Oregon, hereby proclaim May 15, 2010 to be Peace Officer Memorial Day and May 9 – 15, 2010 to be Police Week
In Oregon and encourage all Oregonians to join in this observance.
