The following news release is from the Klamath County District Attorney's Office
On May 14, 2012 the Klamath County Grand Jury found Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Casey Codding to be legally justified in the May1, 2012 shooting of fugitive Alberto Quiroz Martinez at a remote cabin in the Crescent Lake area. Senior Trooper Codding was a member of the Oregon State Police SWAT team attempting to take Martinez into custody after he had kidnapped an adult female in Umatilla County on April 26, 2012 and allegedly raped and sodomized her. Martinez was in the cabin for several hours and refused to surrender to authorities. Martinez was wounded by the trooper’s shot and taken into custody. He was then taken to a Deschutes County-area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. After release from the hospital, he was transported to Umatilla County and indicted for Kidnapping in the first degree, Rape in the first degree, Sodomy, Assault in the fourth degree, and Menacing. Martinez was recently released from prison in Umatilla County for similar charges.
