Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Tuesday afternoon's two-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 138E about four miles west of Glide in Douglas County. One person was killed and another seriously injured.
On May 17, 2011 at approximately 2:45 p.m. a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by ANDREW H. BUCKNELL, age 28, from Roseburg, was westbound on Highway 138E near milepost 13 when an eastbound 1995 Acura Integra driven by DANIEL P. MELENDEZ JR., age 49, from Glide, crossed the center line as it negotiated a right curve. Both vehicles collided nearly head-on near the right hand westbound lane.
MELENDEZ was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints.
BUCKNELL was using safety restraints and received serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center.
OSP troopers from the Roseburg Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Douglas County EMTs, Glide Rural Fire Department and ODOT assisted at the scene. The westbound lanes were closed over 3 hours during the investigation.
