Office: (541) 726-2536

Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division detectives are continuing a death investigation following the discovery Monday afternoon of a 46-year old Cottage Grove man hanging from a low tree branch in the northbound Interstate 5 rest area north of Cottage Grove. There is no evidence of foul play and the investigation indicates the man took his own life. The man's next of kin were notified.
On May 17, 2010 at approximately 1:00 p.m. a woman walking her dog on the south end of the Interstate 5 Gettings Creek Rest Area near milepost 178 spotted what she believed was a man hanging from a tree in the shadows. The woman told her friends and their closer observation confirmed the sighting.
OSP troopers and detectives responded along with Lane County Rural Fire District personnel who pronounced the adult male deceased. The site was in a treed area along the fence line about 60 yards from the freeway.
OSP detectives, with the assistance of the Medical Examiner, are continuing the investigation.
ODOT assisted at the scene.
