Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 101 near Brookings

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's three vehicle fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others on Highway 101 near Brookings.
According to Trooper Brandon Smithers, on May 20, 2011 at approximately 4:50 p.m. a 1999 Dodge pickup driven by HAROLD R. BICKLEY, age 76, was northbound on Highway 101 near milepost 361 when it crossed the center line and collided nearly head-on with a southbound 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup. After impact, the Toyota pickup rolled onto its top and came to rest on the southbound shoulder. A southbound 1995 Ford Thunderbird braked hard and had minor contact with the Toyota as it came to a stop.
The Toyota's driver, MARITESS F. DEMORET, age 31, from Gasquet, California was pronounced deceased at the scene.
HAROLD BICKLEY and passenger GLORIA L. BICKLEY, age 74, both from Chico, California, were transported by ambulance to Sutter Coast Hospital for treatment. HAROLD BICKLEY was later flown by Cal-Ore Life Flight air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg for treatment of serious injuries. GLORIA's injuries are considered minor.
The Ford Thunderbird's driver, NOEMI HERNANDEZ, age 31, from Crescent City, California was not injured.
Safety restraint use information is not available for this release.
OSP troopers from the Gold Beach work site are continuing the investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Coos County Medical Examiner, Curry County Sheriffs Office, Brookings Police Department, Harbor Fire Department and ODOT. California Highway Patrol and Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office in Florida assisted with the next of kin notifications.
