Media Advisory - News Conference: Summer Construction Map Ready; Safety is Priority #1
Transportation Safety Month concludes with enhanced enforcement
WHAT:     Transportation and law enforcement officials will gather to promote "Awareness and Action" as Oregon moves into a busy summer travel season.
WHEN:      Thursday, May 26, 1:00 p.m. in Salem
WHERE:    Capitol Press Room (basement), 900 Court Street NE, Salem, and equipment displays in front of Capitol
WHO:         ODOT Director Matthew Garrett will highlight key work zones and promote safe driving in construction kickoff announcement. Oregon State Police Patrol Services Director Captain Mike Dingeman will discuss extra law enforcement efforts planned throughout the busy summer travel season, including over Memorial Day.
WHY:          Highway construction means jobs for Oregonians, but it also means more work zones and as the economy ramps up, more people traveling. Being AWARE of work zones and other travelers and taking ACTION to slow down can save lives.
WHAT:       OSP's Mobile DUII Processing Center motorhome will be on display along with ODOT safety equipment, including an Incident Response vehicle, a Variable Message Sign, a truck attenuator and more. At the event, ODOT will distribute the 2011 Summer Construction Map (which will soon be available at DMV offices, Welcome Centers, and other key areas around the state).
