Death Investigation - West of Interstate 5 in Salem Area
Lieutenant Gregg Hastings
Public Information Officer
Office: (503) 731-3020 ext. 247

Working with the Marion County Medical Examiner, Oregon State Police major crime detectives investigating the suspicious death of a man found deceased Thursday morning west of Interstate 5 in Salem determined he took his own life.
On May 28, 2009 at approximately 6:00 a.m. Salem police and firefighters responded to a report of a possible deceased male southwest of the Interstate 5 and Highway 22 interchange on the east edge of Cascade Gateway Park. Upon their arrival they confirmed the man was deceased.
Because the location is on state highway right-of-way, Salem-area OSP major crime detectives responded and led the investigation with the assistance of the Marion County medical examiner. Interviews with family members and others present in the area indicates the man's death was an apparent suicide.
The 27-year old man has no known permanent address and was living at nearby transient camp in the park's vicinity.
