Fatal Vehicle / Pedestrian Hit and Run Crash Interstate 5 South of Ashland

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Wednesday morning's hit and run crash that left a female pedestrian deceased on Interstate – 5 southbound near milepost 14.
On June 2, 2010 at about 2:10 A.M., OSP troopers were dispatched to the area of Interstate -5 southbound near milepost 14 for an adult female that was reportedly walking in the southbound lanes.
At about 2:16 A.M., OSP troopers arrived in the area to find a deceased adult female in the middle of the southbound slow lane near milepost 14. The female pedestrian had sustained fatal injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. OSP troopers were unable to find the vehicle that struck the female pedestrian.
Evidence at the crash scene indicates that a large type vehicle struck the female pedestrian and continued southbound.
The female pedestrian's name is being withheld pending next of kin notification. It was learned that the female pedestrian was 52 years of age and resided in the Southern Oregon area.
OSP troopers are continuing their investigation. Investigators are requesting that anyone who saw the female pedestrian walking in the area prior to the crash or anyone who may have witnessed the crash please call the OSP Central Point Patrol Office at 541-776-6114 EXT 326.
The southbound lanes were closed for approximately 5 hours. Both lanes were open at about 7:30 A.M.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Ashland Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
