OSP Detectives Arrest Bay City Man on Additional Allegations Involving Teenage Girl

Detectives from the Roseburg office of the Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division arrested a Bay City-area man Friday afternoon on multiple charges related to an unlawful sexual relationship with a 14 year old female that had occurred in Douglas County. This is an on-going investigation that (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division has been working since November 2009.
In January 2010, OSP detectives arrested DEREK LEON ELLWOOD, age 43, from Bay City, for Luring a Minor and Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the First Degree.   ELLWOOD, who is a registered sex offender in Oregon following a 1989 conviction for Rape in the Third Degree, was lodged in the Tillamook County Jail.
A Douglas County Grand Jury indictment ELLWOOD for those crimes in January. ELLWOOD remained in the Douglas County Jail until April, when he posted bail and was released pending a criminal trial.
Continued investigation into this case and the discovery of additional evidence through forensic analysis, investigators were able to obtain probable cause to arrest Ellwood on additional charges.
According to Sergeant Teresa Bowersox, on June 4, 2010 (OSP) detectives, with the assistance of the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant on a residence in Bay City and arrested ELLWOOD on additional charges. ELLWOOD was arrested for the following additional charges:
  • Rape in the Third Degree
  • Sodomy in the Second Degree
  • Sex Abuse in the Third Degree
  • Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree
  • Using a Child in the Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct
ELLWOOD was transported by (OSP) detectives to Roseburg where the crimes occurred and was lodged in the Douglas County Jail.
