Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 99W south of Monmouth

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Thursday evening crash that killed one person and injured three others on Highway 99W south of Monmouth.
On June 3, 2010 at approximately 7:30 p.m. OSP troopers from the Salem and McMinnville areas responded to a reported head-on collision at Highway 99W and Parker Road in Polk County. The investigation indicated a 2000 Nissan Xterra driven by AMANDA PARSONS, age 19, from Missoula, Montana was northbound on Highway 99W when it drifted off the road and onto the northbound shoulder.  PARSONS over-corrected and crossed the centerline where it collided with a southbound 2002 Honda Civic driven by JACK MITCHELL, age 77, from Newport.
MITCHELL was pronounced deceased at the scene.  His passenger, NANCY MITCHELL, age 83, from Newport, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with serious injuries.
PARSON and her passenger, TYLER FUNK, age 19, from Portland, were taken to Salem Hospital with minor injuries.
Highway 99W was closed for approximately three hours while troopers from the OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash. OSP was assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.
