Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Wednesday morning's single vehicle fatal traffic crash east of Illinois Valley in Josephine County. The crash resulted in the death of 28-year old man who was living in the Cave Junction area.

According to Sergeant Jeff Proulx, on June 6, 2012 at approximately 5:54 a.m. OSP was contacted by Josephine County Sheriff's Office about a single vehicle traffic crash along Dick George Road near Holland Loop Road. The car's driver, GARRETT THOMAS SOESBE, age 28, was conscious when Illinois Valley Fire District and medical responders arrived. SOESBE died while being transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

At approximately 5:30 a.m. an area resident called 9-1-1 reporting a car upside down in a field near her residence. Preliminary investigation indicates at an unknown time during the night, a 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage two-door driven by SOESBE was southbound on Dick George Road when it traveled straight off the road as it entered a right curve. After leaving the road, the Mitsubishi collided head-on into a large tree and overturned on its top.

SOESBE crawled out of the car during the night where he remained until found by emergency responders. Safety restraint use is unknown.

SOESBE was living and working in the area. He has previously lived in Springfield and Portland.

Anyone with information about where SOESBE was prior to the crash is asked to contact Senior Trooper Kirk Melahn at (541) 955-6370 ext. 5001.
