A 64-year old Calgary, Alberta man died Friday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a tree along Highway 395 about thirteen miles north of Lakeview. The man's name and residence information is being released following next of kin notification by Calgary police.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Steve Yates, on June 11, 2010 at approximately 5:50 p.m. a 2007 Honda Goldwing three-wheel converted motorcycle operated by DYRL ARNOLD SPENCER, age 64, was southbound on a straight stretch of Highway 395 near milepost 129 when it traveled partially off onto the right gravel shoulder. SPENCER tried to bring the motorcycle back onto the highway but lost control, crossing both lanes and going off the opposite shoulder where it crashed into a tree about 30 feet off the highway.
SPENCER was ejected off the motorcycle after colliding with the tree. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a protective helmet but it came off during the crash.
SPENCER was traveling with two friends who were on separate motorcycles. They did not witness the crash.
OSP troopers from the Lakeview worksite were assisted at the scene by Lake County Sheriff's Office, Lakeview Disaster Unit, and ODOT.
