Lieutenant Gregg Hastings

(503) 731-3020 ext. 247

Oregon State Police (OSP) detectives are continuing the search for a person who is now considered a suspect wanted in connection for an early Sunday morning assault with a shotgun against two people at a residence south of Florence. A woman previously considered a person of interest and a vehicle thought to be associated with this case have been located by OSP detectives and are no longer of interest at this time.
Detectives are still seeking information to help locate VICTOR GLEN CARON, age 46. CARON is described as a white male, 5'8" with brown hair and brown eyes. No other descriptive information or current photograph is available at this time.
The blue 2000 Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle displaying Oregon license plates is also no longer of interest. Detectives do not know of any other associated vehicles that CARON may have access to, but they are following up on all leads to find him.
OSP Detective Dusty Sprague identified CARON as the lone suspect sought in connection with the assault of ROXANNA MERCHANT, age 27, and JASON EMERSON, age 26, from Florence. On June 13, 2010 at approximately 1:00 a.m. the two victims and a 4-year old boy were visiting a residence in the 84000 block of Green Gate Road, south of Florence near Honeyman State Park where CARON shares a home with a 40-year old woman. An argument occurred during which CARON allegedly shot MERCHANT in the stomach with a shotgun and then struck EMERSON in the head with the weapon.
After the assault, both victims left the residence with MERCHANT's son and fled in a vehicle to a nearby gas station where they called 9-1-1. OSP troopers, detectives and Lane County deputies responded and surrounded the residence later that morning but found no one inside.
The initial investigation identified CARON and the 40-year old woman as persons of interest, but the ongoing OSP investigation has now named CARON as the assault suspect. It is not known if CARON is armed, but he has known ties to California and Nevada.
MERCHANT still remains hospitalized in Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend for treatment of her shotgun wounds. EMERSON was treated and released from Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence.
Anyone with information regarding the location of VICTOR GLEN CARON is asked to immediately call OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at (800) 452-7888 or 9-1-1.
