Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 101 near Winchester Bay

A Molalla-area man died Saturday night from injuries suffered earlier in the day in a motorcycle crash on Highway 101 near Winchester Bay in Douglas County.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Trooper Joshua Young, on June 14, 2008 at approximately 11:57 a.m.a 2007 Harley Davidson operatored by MICHAEL REX ADDIS, age 66, from Molalla, was northbound on Highway 101 near milepost 217 he it lost control while braking in an attempt to avoid a collision with a northbound car.  The motorcycle tipped onto its side, ejecting ADDIS as it continued to slide northbound.
ADDIS was injured and initially transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport for treatment.  He was then transferred by Reach Air Ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland where he died later in the day.
ADDIS was wearing a protective helmet.
OSP troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office are completing the investigation.  Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Reedsport Police Department, US Forest Service law enforcement, Winchester Bay Fire Department, and Lower Umpqua Ambulance assisted.
Highway 101 was restricted to one lane for about 90 minutes.
