Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 224 east of Estacada
Lieutenant Gregg Hastings
Public Information Officer
(503) 731-3020 ext 247

A Gervais-area man died Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a van along Highway 224 about 25 miles east of Estacada. A second motorcyclist traveling with the victim was also involved in the collision but wasn't injured.

On June 17, 2012 at approximately 1:37 p.m. a 2006 Honda motorcycle operated by ROMAN CHERNISHOV, age 29, from Gervais, was traveling eastbound on Highway 224 near milepost 50 with another motorcycle operated by PABIL G. CAM, age 22, from Aurora. As the motorcycles negotiated a right curve, the lead motorcycle operated by CHERNISHOV lost control and traveled across the centerline where it collided into the left front corner of a westbound 2003 Dodge Caravan driven by TUDOR URSU, age 51, from southeast Portland.

The second motorcycle braked hard and slowed enough that as it collided with the downed motorcycle its operator was able to get off safely. Its operator, CAM, was not injured.

CHERNISHOV was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

URSU and his three passengers were not injured.

OSP troopers from Portland and Government Camp offices are continuing the investigation. Speed in the curve may have been a contributing factor for the motorcycle. Trooper Scott McLeod is the lead investigator.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, and AMR ambulance services assisted at the scene.
