OSP Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Seattle, WA Man Following Discovery of 3/4 lb of Cocaine - Interstate 5 near Ashland

A Seattle, Washington man was arrested Tuesday morning near Ashland during an Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic stop when a trooper found nearly 3/4 of a pound of cocaine in the driver's possession. The OSP Drug Enforcement Section is continuing the investigation.

On June 19, 2012 at approximately 8:35 a.m. an OSP senior trooper stopped a rented 2012 Dodge Challenger displaying California license plates northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 14 after seeing the passenger not using safety restraints. During the stop, the driver was identified as GERALD KEITH RIGGINS, age 46, from Seattle, Washington.

Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led the trooper to discover nearly 13 ounces of cocaine in the driver's clothing and inside a backpack. A small amount of marijuana was also found. Estimated value of the seized cocaine is approximately $8,000.

RIGGINS was arrested and lodged in the Jackson County Jail for Unlawful Possession, Distribution and Manufacture of a Controlled Substance - Cocaine.

The 50-year old male passenger was cited for violation Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana.
