Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers with the assistance of the Clatsop County Medical Examiner were able to positively identify the deceased male found Wednesday evening on Clatsop Beach about five miles north of Seaside.
On June 24, 2009 at about 6:45 p.m., Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers and Clatsop County deputies were dispatched to a report of a deceased body located on Clatsop Beach. The body was initially an unidentified African American male believed to be between forty to fifty years of age found to be wearing a life jacket. An unoccupied kayak was found to the north of the location. Investigators believe it was possible that the deceased male may have been kayaking prior to his death and are investigating the case as an accidental drowning. There does not appear to be foul play involved with the case.
The man was positively identified as WILLIAM DON HARRIS, age 63, from Portland. Troopers from the Portland Area Command were able to contact his family after he was positively identified.
Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers were assisted at the scene by Clatsop County Medical Examiner, Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, and Gearhart Fire Department.
