Oregon State Police Superintendent Timothy McLain announced the appointment of Major Chris P. Brown to the position as Deputy Superintendent responsible for the overall day-to-day operations, policy and administration of the Department.  The appointment is effective July 1, 2009.
"Since Chris joined our department over two years ago he quickly became a trusted advisor and leader at a time when we faced some significant challenges.  He has proven to be the right person to be the next Deputy Superintendent to help lead the men and women of the Oregon State Police," said Superintendent McLain.
Brown, age 48, joined the Oregon State Police on January 1, 2007, and has overseen the Public Safety Services Bureau for the department which included the Law Enforcement Data Systems, State Fire Marshal's Office, State Medical Examiner, Criminal Justice Information Systems Division, State Police Dispatch Centers, Forensic Services Division and the Gaming Enforcement Division.  He was appointed Douglas County Sheriff in 2003 and previously served as Chief of the Roseburg Police Department.
"Chris brings of wealth of law enforcement experience to the Oregon State Police," said Governor Ted Kulongoski. "His knowledge of law enforcement at the state and local level make him an excellent choice for Deputy Superintendent."
