OSP Investigating Hoax Bomb Threat in State Capitiol Building Area

Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of Salem Police Department, closed Court Street between 12th Street and Cottage Street north of the State Capitol building for 90 minutes Monday afternoon to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic to investigate a report of an explosive device. The north entrance to the State Capitol building was closed and no evacuations were ordered while OSP worked to confirm the report.

On July 2, 2012 prior to 1:00 p.m. OSP Northern Command Center dispatch received a phone call from an unidentified male reporting an explosive device outside north of the building. The street was closed and explosive technicians from Oregon State Police and FBI were on scene to assist with the area search. OSP investigation found no suspicious object or explosive device. The investigation will continue to determine who the unidentified caller was.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Court Street between 12th Street and Cottage Street opened about 2:30 p.m.
