Oregon State Police (OSP), working in conjunction with the Lane County medical examiner, is continuing the investigation into the cause of death of a 52-year old Albany man found Sunday evening in his locked van parked at a trailhead along Highway 58 about eighteen miles west of Oakridge.
On July 1, 2012 at approximately 9:00 p.m. OSP Senior Trooper Marshall Maher stopped to check a van parked at the Goodman Creek trailhead along Highway 58 near milepost 20. The van's curtains were closed but Maher saw in one of the rear windows a man who appeared to be deceased inside the back section of the van. The van was locked so Maher forced entry through the passenger side window and confirmed the man was deceased.
The man was identified as ANTHONY DALE LAIR, age 52, from Albany. LAIR was reported missing June 30, 2012 to Albany Police Department by his daughter who lives out of state. He was last seen in the Albany area June 29.
There is no sign of injury or that his death is the result of a crime. An autopsy is pending.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Oakridge Police Department and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement.
