Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Friday night's wrong way driver-involved fatal traffic crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 east of Corbett that resulted in the death of a woman and serious injuries to a man.

According to Trooper Ted Moisan, on July 6, 2012 at approximately 11:55 p.m. a 2005 Nissan Frontier pickup driven by JAMES F. SCHNEIDER, age 53, from White Salmon, Washington, was eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 23 following another vehicle in the left lane when the vehicle ahead of the pickup swerved left to avoid a wrong way driver. The pickup collided head-on with a 2007 Kia Rio that was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

The Kia's driver, ERIKA K. MYERS, age 36, from southeast Portland, was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was wearing safety restraints and the car's airbags deployed.

SCHNEIDER was transported by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with serious injuries. He was wearing safety restraints and the pickup's airbags deployed.

Just prior to the crash occurring, at least one driving complaint was received about a wrong way driver in that area.

OSP troopers from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. Moisan is the lead investigator.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, Multnomah County Fire District 14, Multnomah County medical examiner, and ODOT. Eastbound traffic was diverted to Highway 30 until about 3:00 a.m.
