Oregon State Police (OSP) are completing the investigation into the apparent suicide of a 55-year old Medford woman found deceased Friday afternoon behind an Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) weigh station building on Highway 140W east of Medford.
According to OSP Senior Trooper Stephanie Bigman, on July 10, 2009 at approximately 3:51 p.m. OSP troopers and Jackson County deputies responded to a report from a truck driver who had stopped at an ODOT weigh station building along Highway 140W near milepost 14 and found a deceased female behind the building. Upon arrival officers confirmed the report and found that the woman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Her vehicle was found parked near the building.
While troopers were on scene they learned that Medford police received a report of a missing, possibly suicidal woman that matched the description of the deceased woman and the vehicle.
The woman was positively identified and Medford police notified. Medford police, with assistance of a police chaplain, contacted the woman's family and notified them of her death.
Troopers were assisted by the Jackson County medical examiner at the scene.
