An Irrigon-area man died Friday afternoon in a two vehicle crash on Highway 730 near Boardman.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Allan Muhs, on July 11, 2008 at approximately 4:41 p.m., JUAN MANUEL IBARRA, age 31, of Hermiston, was driving a 2000 Ford F-350 flatbed pick-up westbound on Highway 730 near the intersection of Bomb Range Road. Just prior to the crash, IBARRA had stopped in the center turn lane of the highway in preparation of turning left onto Bomb Range Road.
A 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by JOSHUA RAY DUNN, age 28, of Irrigon, had exited Interstate 84 and turned eastbound onto Highway 730. As the motorcycle was traveling eastbound, the 2000 Ford pickup turned left into its path, struck the pickup and caught fire.
IBARRA got out of his vehicle and attempted to pull DUNN to a safe area away from the fire. DUNN died at the scene of the crash.
There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. DUNN was wearing a helmet and IBARRA was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
IBARRA was cited at the scene for making a Dangerous Left Turn.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by the Morrow County Sheriff's Office, Boardman Fire and Ambulance, Morrow County Road Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
