The Lake County Major Crimes Team, with the assistance of the Oregon State Police Forensic Services Division and Office of State Medical Examiner, is investigating the homicide of a Lakeview-area woman whose body was found last week in a remote area northwest of Lakeview.

VALERIE ANNETTE WATTS (aka: BROWN), age 47, from Lakeview, was reported missing by her daughter to Lake County Sheriff's Office on June 25, 2012. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a woman's body July 11 in a utility trailer on National Forest property about 25 miles northwest of Lakeview. The body was positively identified as WATTS following a July 14 autopsy by a deputy state medical examiner. The manner or cause of death is not being disclosed because of the ongoing investigation.

Her husband, MARTIN BROWN, age 55, was arrested on an unrelated Probation Violation charge July 9 and is in custody at Lake County Jail. Although a person of interest, he has not been charged in connection with this investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Lake County Sheriff's Office at 541-947-6027.

The Lake County Major Crimes Team is comprised of personnel from Lake County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Lakeview Police Department, and Lake County District Attorney's Office. Also assisting in the investigation is Oregon Department of Justice, Oregon State Police Forensic Services Division, and United States Forest Service law enforcement.
