Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the death of a 25-year old woman who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after driving into a ditch along Highway 47 about seven miles north of Vernonia.  There is no evidence to indicate the death is associated with any crime.
According to OSP Sergeant Yvette Shephard, on July 21, 2011 at approximately 12:50 p.m. OSP was dispatched to a report of a vehicle crashing into a ditch along Highway 47 near Big Eddy Park. When an OSP trooper arrived on scene, he contacted witnesses who reported that as they stopped to see if the adult female operator needed help she shot herself in the chest with a handgun.
OSP troopers from the St. Helens work site are continuing the investigation.
