A Bend police motor officer was injured Thursday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a pickup attempting to turn across congested traffic into a bank entrance in the city of Bend. Oregon State Police (OSP) is investigating the crash at the request of Bend Police Department.
Preliminary investigation indicates on July 23, 2009 at approximately 1:12 p.m. a 2008 Chevrolet pickup driven by KRISTEN NICOLE HUBER, age 20, from Bend, was stopped in the left westbound lane on SE Reed Market Road between SE Division Street and SE 3rd Street waiting to turn left into a local bank parking lot. Eastbound traffic was reported as heavy and HUBER attempted to turn left as a commercial truck approached in the left eastbound lane. HUBER tried to turn left across the eastbound lanes when a Bend motor officer in the right eastbound lane collided with the right front corner of the pickup.
The Bend motor officer identified as RYAN SHORE, age 41, was thrown off the police motorcycle onto the pickup. SHORE was transported by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center - Bend with non-life threatening injuries. Any questions regarding Officer SHORE should be directed to Bend Police Department.
HUBER and her 19-year old passenger were not injured. They were using safety restraints.
SE Reed Market Road was closed about 90 minutes during the investigation. OSP troopers, with the assistance of a collision reconstructionist, are continuing the investigation.
Bend Police Department and Bend Fire Department assisted at the scene.
