A westbound Interstate 84 rest area between Mosier and Rowena was closed Thursday for about 3-hours while Oregon State Police (OSP) investigated two suspicious objects found this morning. OSP bomb technicians responded and safely disposed of the objects.

On July 23, 2009 at approximately 9:00 a.m. ODOT employees reported finding two suspicious packages at the westbound Interstate 84 Memaloose rest area. Troopers responded and closed the rest area to motorists as a precaution.

OSP bomb technicians from Salem responded and subsequently rendered both objects safe. An examination by bomb technicians found that neither object contained any explosives or other material that would have presented a hazard to the public.

ODOT personnel remained on scene to help secure the rest area during the closure.
