Oregon State Police(OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Sunday afternoon's single vehicle fatal traffic crash on Interstate 84 near Boardman that resulted in the death of a Pendleton man and non-life threatening injuries to a woman.
According to OSP Trooper Mark Amos, on July 24, 2011 at approximately 5:11 p.m. a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier four-door driven by KYLE ROWANN THOMPKINS, age 47, from Pendleton, was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 164 in the left lane passing a van that was in the right lane. During the attempted pass, THOMPKINS lost control and the car spun counterclockwise into the center median where it rolled several times.
THOMPKINS was not using safety restraints and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
His passenger, TANYA ANN HUNT, age 42, from Pendleton, was using safety restraints. She was transported by Morrow County Irrigon Ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston with non-life threatening injuries.
OSP troopers are continuing the investigation and were assisted at the scene by Morrow County Sheriff's Office, Boardman Fire Department, Boardman Police Department, and ODOT.
