An Estacada man who is a predatory sex offender was arrested Wednesday afternoon at Bonnie Lure State Park near Eagle Creek after he ran into brush when officers arrived and was later found in violation of his parole. Specifically, he was in an area where children were playing and swimming at the park.

On July 29, 2009 at approximately 1:26 p.m. an anonymous caller reported to Clackamas County 9-1-1 that a person named DANIEL WAYNE FINDLEY, who is a known predatory sex offender, was at Bonnie Lure State Park where children were playing. As a Clackamas County deputy arrived and got out of his patrol car, a man matching the description ran into the brush.

An OSP Fish & Wildlife sergeant and trooper arrived shortly after the man ran into the brush. The area was secured and the officers searched for about 45 minutes before the man came out of the brush.

The man was identified as FINDLEY, age 41, from Estacada. FINDLEY is a predatory sex offender listed on the State of Oregon Sex Offender Inquiry System website. FINDLEY was convicted in 1996 for Rape and Sodomy in the First Degree involving known victims, and he is known to target males and females under 12 years of age. He is prohibited from having contact with any persons under the age of 18 years or to frequent areas where minors are likely to congregate.

There were 25 - 30 people in the park, including approximately twelve children under the age of 12 who were in close proximity to where FINDLEY was first seen. Witnesses stated FINDLEY was at the park for approximately one hour before officers arrived.

Contact was made with FINDLEY's parole officer who quickly authorized his arrest for Parole Violation.  FINDLEY was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail.
