Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a fatal traffic crash southeast of Moro in Sherman County that resulted in the death of a Pendleton man and non-life threatening injuries to a Kent, Oregon resident. The ongoing investigation has not confirmed the exact time or cause of the crash, or which person was driving.
On August 2, 2010 at 6:32 a.m. Sherman County 9-1-1 received a call reporting a pickup containing two people was involved in a crash at an unknown location southeast of Moro. Approximately 30 minutes later, Sherman County emergency responders found the overturned pickup on its side down an embankment near a field off Crites Lane east of Lone Rock Road.
A deceased male identified as ROBERT KYLE BURNSIDE, age 21, from Pendleton, was ejected from the 2007 Dodge four-door pickup. A 19-year old male, ZACHARY JON JUSTESEN from Kent, was located at the scene with non-life threatening injuries and transported by ambulance to Mid-Columbia Medical Center.
Preliminary investigation indicates BURNSIDE and JUSTESEN reportedly left a residence in the pickup several miles from the crash scene Sunday night, August 1st, at about 10:00 p.m. The pickup was westbound on Crites Lane when it failed to negotiate a right curve, traveled across the eastbound lane and off the highway where it rolled an unknown period of times before coming to rest on its driver side.
OSP troopers from The Dalles Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Sherman County Sheriff's Office, North Sherman Fire and Moro Fire departments, and Sherman County Ambulance assisted at the scene.
