An investigation by an Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division detective led to the arrest and subsequent indictment of a Grants Pass-area man on multiple sex offenses involving crimes against a known juvenile female victim. The suspect remains in custody in the Josephine County Jail with bail currently listed at $1 million.
MATTHEW RYAN DANIELS, age 28, from Grants Pass, was the focus of an OSP investigation that began July 27, 2010. Detective Bryan Scott investigated allegations of multiple incidents of sex abuse by DANIELS against a six year old female. Information obtained led to a Josephine County Circuit Court judge issuing a search warrant that was served at DANIELS' residence on August 2nd where detectives seized multiple computers, external hard drives and other electronic storage devices. The seized items will be submitted to the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force for analysis.
On the same day the search warrant was executed, OSP arrested DANIELS and lodged him in the Josephine County Jail. On August 3rd, a Josephine County Grand Jury indicted DANIELS on the following charges:
  • Rape in the First Degree
  • Sex Abuse in the First Degree (10 counts)
  • Sodomy in the First Degree (3 counts)
  • Unlawful Sexual Penetration
Questions regarding pending court appearance(s) should be directed to the Josephine County District Attorney's Office.
