An enforcement project targeting out-of-compliance registered sex offenders will be coordinated by the Oregon State Police (OSP) during the month of August in the southwest Oregon counties of Jackson, Josephine, Douglas, Klamath, Lake, Coos and Curry. Joining OSP on this project will be local law enforcement agencies, parole and probation departments, and District Attorney's offices.

"Participating law enforcement personnel will take a zero tolerance stance for those offenders who are not in compliance," said OSP Sergeant Bill Fugate. "However slight the violation may be, we plan on arresting those persons who are out of compliance with their registration requirements."

The OSP Sex Offender Registration Unit tracks the registration of persons convicted of sex crimes that reside, work or attend school within the state of Oregon. The Registry is the state repository for information, encompassing adult and juvenile offenders.

As of July 2009, approximately 16,000 individuals are required to register in Oregon. This does not include persons who have moved from Oregon to other states, or those individuals who are currently incarcerated in correctional facilities (i.e., state and federal prisons, detention centers and some medical treatment facilities).

A list of offenders, both on and off supervision, can be obtained by calling the Oregon State Police at 503-378-3725 Extension 44429, or by email request at Sexoffender.Questions@state.or.us. You will need to leave your name, mailing address, and the city or zip code information you require.

Additional information will be provided upon completion of the enforcement project.
