Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 20 west of Vale

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of a two-vehicle head-on crash Friday night on Highway 20 about twenty miles west of Vale that resulted in the death of an adult female and injuries to two others.

On August 3, 2012 at approximately 10:43 p.m. (Mountain Time Zone), a 1996 Ford Mustang driven by NANCY JO MARSHALL, age 60, from Juntura, Oregon was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 224 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. MARSHALL was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Chevrolet's driver, JEFFREY D. UNDERWOOD, age 55, from Pocatello, Idaho, was seriously injured and transported by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. Passenger JOYCE UNDERWOOD, age 52, from Pocatello, was transported by ground ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario with minor injuries.

Safety restraint use information is not available.

OSP troopers from the Ontario Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

Malheur County Sheriff's Office, Vale Ambulance and ODOT assisted at the scene. The highway was closed for over two hours.
