Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Saturday night's single vehicle traffic crash on Highway 199 south of Grants Pass that resulted in the death of a 61-year old woman and injuries to the vehicle's driver.

According to Sergeant Jeff Allison, on August 4, 2012 at approximately 9:39 p.m., a 2006 Chevrolet pickup driven by CLELL B. EDLER, age 52, from Gold Hill, was northbound on Highway 199 near milepost 16 when, according to the driver, he swerved to avoid a deer in the road. The driver lost control as the pickup traveled off the highway and struck a large tree.

The female passenger, PEGGY JEAN KIDD, age 61, from Gold Hill, was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was reportedly the driver's girlfriend and they were returning from a day of fishing along the coast.

EDLER was transported by AMR ambulance to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass with non-life threatening injuries.

Both persons were using safety restraints and the pickup's airbags deployed.

OSP troopers from the Grants Pass and Central Point offices are continuing the investigation. Trooper Zac McLendon is the lead investigator. Any witnesses or persons who stopped at the scene and haven't given a statement to OSP is asked to call OSP Southern Command Center dispatch at (541) 474-3174.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Illinois Fire Department, Rural Metro Fire, and ODOT.
